The Tariff of 1828 raised taxes on imported manufactured goods from Europe, it aimed to protect the new industries from New England making the goods from Europe more expensive.

The problem was that the South was badly hurt by those tariffs, they could not sell as much as they did before and they also had to pay more for the manufactured goods they needed. Because of that, they called those tariffs “Tariffs of Abominations” and John C. Calhoun from South Carolina invoked the nullification of the laws claiming that the States had rights that were above federal laws. This echoed in the Succession from the Union.

Can someone please write me a persuasive essay about the Boston tea party
lapo4ka [179]

Most people have heard about the Boston Tea Party. When Americans dumped British Tea in Boston Harbor. But not everyone understands the importance of it, and why the Tea Party is still remembered today. It was on December 16, 1773, when American patriots disguised as Mohawk Indians threw 342 chests of tea belonging to the British East India Company from ships into Boston Harbor. "The Americans were protesting both a tax on tea (the Townshend Acts) and the perceived monopoly of the East India Company (also the called English East India Company. On December 16, 1773, American patriots dressed as Mohawk Indians boarded the vessels of the East India Company docked in the Boston harbor and dumped all the tea that was on the three ships into the ocean. They emptied 342 chests of tea which was valued at more than 10,000 pounds. This event became known as the "Boston Tea Party." The Boston Tea Party was a reaction to the Tea Act of 1773 that was passed by Parliament to save the British East India Company from bankruptcy. The Tea Act essentially eliminated all taxes on tea except the three pence Townshend tax. More importantly, it offered Americans tea at a lower price than that of the colonial smugglers.

What were two early proposals for ending slavery in the early 1800s?
VladimirAG [237]

Recolonization of slaves and complete abolition of slavery.

Three groups emerged in the 1830's-1840's each with a differing view of how to end or contain slavery. The most conservative approach was the recolonization approach. The American Colonization Society created the colony of Liberia with the intent of freeing slaves and sending them back to Africa. The most liberal approach came from the Liberty Party who advocated for the complete end of slavery based on moral grounds. The Liberty Party wanted slavery to end immediately with blacks receiving citizenship rights.

The moderate approach to slavery that emerged at the time didn't directly end slavery but hoped to contain the institution. Free-soilers emerge after the Mexican-American War and believed that the new land gained should be free from slavery. By containing slavery to the South, the system would eventually snuff itself out without extra land available to expand the system.
