The answer is: x = 9

Here's how I got my answer:

Step 1: Simplify the brackets. Which leaves us with 4(x+3)-x+1=40

Step 2: Expand it. Which leaves us with 4x+12-x+1=40

Step 3: Simplify 4x+12-x+1 to 3x+13. Which leaves us with 3x+13=40

Step 4: Subtract 13 from both sides. Which leaves us with 3x=40-13

Step 5: Simplify 40-13 to 27. Which leaves us with 3x = 27

Step 6: Divide both sides by 3, leaving us with our answer, x = 9.

Answer:

  x^2 +8x +12

Step-by-step explanation:

The area is the product of length and width. The product can be simplified using the distributive property.

  A = LW

  A = (x +6)(x +2) = x(x +2) +6(x +2)

  A = x^2 +2x +6x +12

  A = x^2 +8x +12

You have a choice between 2 jobs, one pays $8.25/hr but requires you to spend $20 to get a uniform. The other pays $7.50/hr. At
Veronika [31]

Step-by-step explanation + Answer:

x = 1st job

y = 2nd job

x + y = 22......x = 22 - y

7x + 8.25y = 171.50

7(22 - y ) + 8.25y = 171.50

154 - 7y + 8.25y = 171.50

-7y + 8.25y = 171.50 - 154

1.25y = 17.50

y = 17.50 / 1.25

y = 14 <== 14 hrs at the 8.25 per hr job

x + y = 22

x + 14 = 22

x = 22 - 14

x = 8 <=== 8 hrs at the 7 per hr job
