The cities grew as the jobs grew. The debate on slavery emerged as a giant issue. The issue on the rights of states did as well. The Second Great Awakening happened during this time. Westward expansion also occurred. A war on Mexico happened in 1846 to acquire Texas, California, and all land in between.</span>
