What is the sum of the geometric sequence −4, 24, −144, ... if there are 8 terms?

The formular for finding the sum of the geometric is: Sn = a1[1 - r^n] /[1 - r]
Where Sn = Number of terms in the series = 8
a1 = the first term = -4
r = common ration = a2/a1 = 24 / -4 = -6.
S8 = -4[1 - [-6]^8 / [1 - (-6)]
S8 = -4 - (1 - 1679616) / 7
S8 = -4 [-1679615] /7
S8 = 6718460 /7 = 959,780.
Therefore, the sum of the first 8 terms in the series is 959,780.

If x ≠ -2, then 5x2 -20/5x+10 =
MissTica

Answer:

x-2\, ,x\neq -2

Step-by-step explanation:

So we have the expression:

\frac{5x^2-20}{5x+10}\, ,x\neq -2

For both the numerator and the denominator, factor out a 5:

\frac{5(x^2-4)}{5(x+2)}\, ,x\neq-2

The term in the numerator can be factored. This is the difference of two squares pattern:

\frac{5(x-2)(x+2)}{5(x+2)}\, ,x\neq-2

Both layers have a 5(x+2). Cancel them, Since we know that x <em>cannot</em> be -2, we can safely do so:

x-2\, ,x\neq -2

And we're done!

Notes:

If we weren't told that x ≠ -2, then we cannot divide them because if x <em>did</em> equal -2, the equation would be undefined. However, since we were given that, we can simplify.

However, even if we weren't given x ≠ -2, we can <em>still</em> simplify, but we need to add the restraint ourselves. This must be done, or else the equation won't be correct.

#3 Q. the diagrams solve please
olya-2409 [2.1K]
Its the first one, 22.5. This is because... if you multiply 5 and 4, you would get 20, the area of the square. You then have to multiply 1 and 5 to get 5 and divide it by 2 to get the area of the triangle which would be 2.5, then add 2.5 to 20 and get 22.5.
Hope this helps :)

Which of the following are solutions to the equation below?
Lady_Fox [76]

Answer:

x =4 ±sqrt(5)

Step-by-step explanation:

x2 - 8x + 16 = 5

Complete the square

(x-4)^2 = 5

Take the square root of each side

sqrt((x-4)^2) = ±sqrt(5)

x-4 = ±sqrt(5)

Add 4 to each side

x-4+4 =4 ±sqrt(5)

x =4 ±sqrt(5)
