1..... 8(x+6)=-64
8x+48 =-64
8x =-64-48

8x=-112
X=-112/8
x=-14....

2.....3(4-2y)=-15
12-6y=-15

-6y=-15-12

-6y = - 27
y=27/6

y=4½....

3.....8w-3w+6=41
5w=41-6
5w=35
W=35/5
w=7....

4.....9x+3+x=-77

10x=-77-3
10x=-80
x=-8...

5.....10(-x-2)=120

-10x-20=120

-10x=120+20
-10x=140
x=140/-10
x=-14...

You shouldn't have a problem with the rest now....

I'll help you with a few to give you an idea of to solve both types of problems.

For problems 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, you just have to distribute the number outside of the parentheses to each of the numbers inside it, like so:

1.
8(x + 6) = -64      Given
8x + 48 = -64       Multiply the 8 by both x and 6 to get rid of the parentheses
8x + 48 = -64
     - 48     -48       Subtract 48 from both sides to cancel it out from the left
8x = -112
x = -14                 Divide both sides by 8 to isolate x

3.
3(4 - 2y) = -15
12 - 6y = -15
-6y = -27
y = 4.5

Repeat this process to solve problems 5, 7, and 9.

For problems 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10, you need to combine like variable terms, like so:

2.
8w - 3w + 6 = 41     Given
5w + 6 = 41             Subtract 3w from 8w
5w = 35                   Subtract 6 from both sides to cancel it out
w = 7                       Divide both sides by 5

4.
9x + 3 + x = -77      Given
10x + 3 = -77          Add 9x and x
10x = -80                Subtract 3 from both sides
x = -8                      Divide both sides by 10

Combining like variable terms is exactly like regular addition and subtraction, except there is a variable attached to the numbers; don't let it confuse you! The other important thing to remember when solving these equations is that, when you perform a calculation, you must do it to both sides of the equation, always.

Hope this helps!

A loan of $12,000 is made at 5.25% interest, compounded annually. After how many years will the amount due reach $22,000 or more
yaroslaw [1]

Answer:

About 16 years

Step-by-step explanation:

First we need to figure out 5.25% of 12000

5.25 x 0.12000 = 0.63

Then we move the decimal

630

Then we need to figure out how many years it will take to reach $22000

Since we already owe $12000, we can just divide using $10000 because 10000 + 12000 = 22000

10000/630 = 15.87

Which is about 16 years

What are rational numbers
Sophie [7]
A rational number is a number that can be written as a fraction or "ratio".
It includes the set of integers because all of them have a denominator of 1.  A rational number can take on the form of \frac{a}{b} where b ≠ 0.  Terminating and repeating decimals are rational numbers because they too can be written as a ratio; for example, 0.3 = \frac{3}{10} or 0.3333... = \frac{1}{3}.

Please answer all the questions if possible, due 2morrow... also, is what I did for the top answer right?
geniusboy [140]
1a. It does say y is "less than 8", which means 7, 6, 5, 4, etc. So it should be y < 8, with the arrow going from 8 to the the left.
Everything else in 1 is correct.

For 2, you're just picking out which of the given numbers satisfy the inequality, for example
a. 14, 15, 16 are solutions. 13 is not because it is less than 14.

3. Same thing as 1
