Holmes Manufacturing is considering a new machine that costs $250,000 and would reduce pretax manufacturing costs by $90,000 ann

ually. Holmes would use the 3-year MACRS method to depreciate the machine, and management thinks the machine would have a value of $23,000 at the end of its 5-year operating life. The applicable depreciation rates are 33%, 45%, 15%, and 7%. Net operating working capital would increase by $25,000 initially, but it would be recovered at the end of the project's 5-year life. Holmes' marginal tax rate is 40%, and a 10% WACC is appropriate for the project.Calcualte the project's NPV

Answer:

NPV=$37,035.13

Explanation:

Using an excel spreadsheet we can find out the cash flows from Year 01 to Year 05.

(CF0=-$275,000, CF1=87,000, CF2=$99,000, CF3=$69,000, CF4=$61,000, CF5=$92,800.

NPV = Net present value (NPV) is the difference between the present value of cash inflows and the present value of cash outflows over a period of time.

NPV= -CF0 + \frac{C1}{1+r} +...\frac{Ct}{(1+r)^{t} }

r = WACC = 10%

= -275,000 + \frac{87,000}{1.10} + \frac{99,000}{(1.10)^{2} } + \frac{69,000}{(1.10)^{3} } + \frac{61,000}{(1.10)^{4} } +\frac{92,800}{(1.10)^{5} }

NPV=$37,035.13

LenaWriter [7]

Answer:

The idea that a higher price means the buying power of income has been reduced.

Explanation:

The income effect is defined as the change in consumption of goods of services after a change of income. If income grows, it is expected that the consumption of goods and services will also grow (this can be measured by the marginal propensity to consume), and viceversa.

If prices rise, the buying power of income will be reduced even if income has grown. If prices rises even more than income, the buying effect of income will fall even more. This two statements can be both explained by the income effect concept.

SVEN [57.7K]

Development is the process of an economy’s increasing industrialization, standard of living, and economic wealth.

When there is a development in economics, they focus on improving the fiscal economic and social conditions in developing countries. Development does not happen over night or at a fast pace but eventually the areas they want to have developed become more economically sound to keep up with the economy's needs. There are 4 stages of economic development, they are expansion, peak, contraction and trough.

Explain how rewards/penalties help people make decisions
olganol [36]
Okay so rewards and penalties make people make better decisions. So like if I don't get questions wrong on a test I receive $5 from my parents, but if I fail a test I'm grounded for a week. So I study more to get money. (this is not actually me just making an example). Rewards make people want to do better, and so do penalties. I don't want to do bad and get punished for it.
