Almost all cells in an animal (except gametes) have two sets of chromosomes. This means that animal cells have two homologous copies of each chromosome, usually one from the mother and one from the father. Such organisms are called diploids. Humans are also diploid organisms which means that they carry two complete sets of chromosomes: one set of 23 chromosomes from their father and one set of 23 chromosomes from their mother. The two sets combined provide a full complement of 46 chromosomes. The haploid cells are gametes (sperm or egg cells) which contain one set of chromosomes, in case of human 23.

The answer is 2. This is why their autosomal cells are referred to as diploid in chromosome number. The gametes have only one set of chromosomes. The homologous pair (sister chromosome) separate during meiosis I. If there was an extra chromosome in addition to this set then this would cause a condition called aneuploidy.

Why is it important that phloem moves sugar both up and down through a plant? Please help
RSB [31]
Sugars, which are formed by the plant during photosynthesis, are an essential component of plant nutrition. Like water, sugar (usually in the form of sucrose, though glucose is the original photosynthetic product) is carried throughout the parts of the plant by the vascular system. Phloem, the vascular tissue responsible for transporting organic nutrients around the plant body, carries dissolved sugars from the leaves (their site of production) or storage sites to other parts of the plant that require nutrients. Within the phloem, sugars travel from areas of high osmotic concentration and high water pressure, called sources, to regions of low osmotic concentration and low water pressure, called sinks. (Osmotic concentration refers the concentration of solutes, or sugars in this case; where the concentration of solutes is highest, so is the osmotic concentration).

In some cats, black coat color (B) is dominant over brown (b) and a striped fur pattern (S) is dominant over a marbled fur patte
VLD [36.1K]

Answer:

d. BbSs

Explanation:

As given;

Black coat color (B) is dominant on brown coat color (b);

Striped fur pattern (S) is dominant on a marbled fur pattern (s);

Cross of black, striped cat with brown marbled cat.

As given, brown and marbled is recessive, so brown marbled cat is bbss.

And according to the given offspring, the other parent must be heterozygous.

So black, striped cat is BbSs

cross is between BbSs and bbss

gametes are: parent-1: BS, Bs, bS, bb; Parent-2; bs

offspring is BbSs, Bbss, bbSs, bbss.
