When you meet family members that don't live with you, such as a grandparent or aunt, you are being socialized. You are meeting those you do not know well, and your fear of other people lessens as you socialize. You realize not only your mom and dad are trustworthy, but so are your school teachers and your friends. Really, it begins when you start to comprehend your surroundings as a baby and stop the "eat, sleep, repeat" cycle.
