Why was slavery generally supported by southerners?
rewona [7]

Answer: Slavery was an important part of their economy

Explanation:

Southern America at the time relied heavily on plantation farming to produce many goods that they exported to the rest of the world and also the North. Crops such as cotton and indigo were in high demand.

Farming these crops was gruesome work and required hard labor. This is why the South used enslaved people. They also wanted to keep labor costs at a minimum and enslaved people were not paid so slavery kept costs down. It was simply too important to their economy.

Licemer1 [7]

We will anaylze this scenario with the help of operant conditioning, which is a type of learning in which behavior is strengthened if followed by a reinforcer or diminished if followed by a punisher. Reinforcer is any event that strengthens the behavior it follows.

Skinner states that "Beahvior is determined and controlled by the stimuli that are present in a given situation"

According to Skinner, when you take an aspirin for your headache, taking the aspirin is a negative reinforcer whereas the headache is an operant.
