The ossicles are the three smallest bony structures (the malleus, incus, and stapes) that are located within the middle ear space of the auditory system in all mammals. The ossicles connect the ear drum to the oval window of the inner ear. They function by transmitting sounds from the air to the cochlea (fluid-contained labyrinth).
