A simple reason why this is such is because they share a similar climate to a certain extent due to which a similar type of growth has developed. This has lead to big similarities between the Northwestern US and between British Columbia in terms of the landscapes of both regions.

It achieved statehood in 1912 and was originally part of New Mexico. The land used to be on an ocean floor but it began to dry and volcanoes sprouted and formed mountain ranges. The remaining of the water became rivers and streams cutting deep canyons. Then Spaniards came and started converting the Indians that lived there in to Christians. People went to strike rich and battles broke out. With the leadership of the pioneers Arizona finally became peaceful territory. Finally it became part of the United States.
