Cupid, son of the goddess of love Venus, has the power of making two individuals feel strongly attracted by each other by the wound of one of his arrows. In the excerpt provided of scene I, Romeo is talking to his beloved friend Benvolio about the misfortunes caused by love and how Rosaline has become the cause of Romeo's troubled heart. The idea of Cupid not throwing his arrow through Rosaline's heart is an indication of the impossiblity of Rosaline getting to feel the same sentiment of love that Romeo has for her.
