5 years--The 13th Amendment was passed in 1865 and the 15th Amendment was passed in 1870. 

The 13th-15th Amendments are the Civil War Amendments. The 13th ended slavery in the US, the 14th granted black men citizenship, and the 15th granted black men the right to vote.
