Self driving cars have thje capacity to avoid accidents in a greater percentage than conventional cars. The car is made in such manner to quickly detect danger and avoid it through Artificial Intelligence(AI)

The harmful effect is that computational innovation is a distruptive technology in that it can take some people out of there jobs. If  there are jobs that require 100 persons to complete. Computational innovation can do such jobs faster. we might soon not be in need of Uber drivers .
