D. They create a sense of suspense

Each of these words and phrases indicate that something important is happening. For example "The immediate pressure of necessity" makes the reader want to know what pressures are the people under where they need to make decisions based on necessity. Also the lines "their only escape from the destruction that...creeps upon them" shows that destruction is coming. Do they survive the destruction? What is happening? This all creates the feeling of suspense.

Shkiper50 [21]

Answer:

The correct answer is "is unwilling to admit his mistakes. "

Explanation:

Danforth is presiding over the Salem trials.

Although he knows that it has been a great mistake to hang 12 wrongfully accused people, he is not willing to admit his mistakes, for which he declares that he cannot forgive others.

Instead of admitting that it was a terrible mistake what happened, he keeps making it just because it would be "unfair" that twelve people have already been hanged for the same thing.

5. Susie was kicking the soccer ball when her teammate knocked her down,
kotegsom [21]

Answer:

Kicking is a present term (Present)

Explanation:

It's not past or past participle because it would've used the terms like, "kicked". It's not a present participle because if you see this example, "He left the room laughing." It doesn't go together right?

Hope this helps! :3
