Pineal gland is a very small structure inside the brain which helps in the production of hormones. It forms from the roots of the diencephalon which is an important part of the brain.

Basically the pineal gland is situated behind ventricle( third cerebral ventricle) of the brain.

The main function of pineal gland is that it is regulates the sleep wake cycle by producing melatonin.
