The Zimmerman telegram was an intercepted message from Germany to Mexico. It was encrypted but the message was decoded by American officials revealing Germany's intent to ask Mexico for assistance in engaging war with the USA. Obviously, this was not something the USA would like at all as it basically meant Germany wanted to go to war with the USA. This was a factor into why America eventually joined World War 1 and it began the hate for Germany shown in this period.
In a 2000 film 'The Patriot', a scene leading to the burning down of a church in the Charles town south is shown in a depictive manner.
General Tavington, a cruel character shown in the movie is a mid-aged man with powers in hand and military to support and enhance those powers by following his orders.
It is shown in the movie that General Tavington gathers people who are on the side of Gabriel (the character projected opposite of Tavington) in a church and gives his brigade the orders to burn the church.
Britain and France were hesitant to support the confederacy until they could collaborate in supporting the Confederacy. France was particularly hesitant until the British could join in. This did not happen and the two countries remained neutral throughout the American Civil War
