Building the Panama Canal

The French in the 1880s had attempted to build a canal across Panama, this catastrophic failure, resulted in the deaths of over 22,000 individuals who were working on the canal project due to malaria and yellow fever. The French eventually stopped their attempt on the project in 1889.

The disease takes on this name because of the horrendous attack on the body that may lead to liver failure and result in a yellowish tone to the skin. The disease is a hemorrhagic fever which assaults the body causing a lengthy list of symptoms including vomiting, nausea, body aches, headaches, coughing up blood and possible resulting in death.

Colonial William Gorgas first let the charge in Cuba and then later in Panama to create a sanitation campaign, which laid waste to the habitats and breeding grounds for the mosquito carrying of the disease and discouraged other forms of contamination, such as isolating those who were sick in quarantine. With his successful program, the United States government was eventually able to complete the canal project in a 10 year period, at the beginning of the 10th century.

How did people in the early Tehuacan Valley live? What did they have for food and how did they get it?
andreyandreev [35.5K]

Answer:

Early Tehuacan Valley people were hunter-gatherers who first domesticated maize.

Explanation:

The Tehuacan Valley is an arid plateau located in southeast Puebla, a state located in central Mexico. The Tehuacan Valley is renowned for being an extremely dry region, where rain is scarce and access to fresh water is difficult. Despite that, the Tehuacan Valley has been continously inhabited for millennia, with the first nomad hunter-gatherers arriving in the area some 20,000 years ago. According to several findings, including those in a cave known as the Maize Cave, it was here were maize was first domesticated, some 7,000 years ago. This led to the Tehuacan Valley being the site of some of the first permanent settlements in Mesoamerica. Starting around 2000 BCE, the valley inhabitants devised and built a series of canals and dams to collect the much needed water for their maize crops. Because of this history, the Tehuacan Valley is also known as the "Cradle of Maize" worldwide.

"Child labor is referred to as work or labor that dispossess children of their childhood, their talent and dignity. It is dangerous for physical and mental development of the child".

"Child labor was common during the Industrial Revolution period. Industrialization influenced workers and their families from agricultural and rural areas to urban areas and industries. In factories, mines and manufacturing units ,children were often laid as employees or laborers, because owners saw them as easily manageable, cheaper, and less likely to strike and demanding for their rights".
