Child labor was especially common in the late 18th century, during the early years of the Industrial Revolution. At the time, industrial cities and towns grew dramatically due to the migration of farmers and their families who were looking for work in the newly developed factories and mines.

The 18th and 19th centuries brought much advancement to Britain and America. It was during this time period that the British Agricultural Revolution took place, which was a period of significant agricultural development marked by new farming techniques and inventions that led to a massive increase in food production. This agricultural growth created a ripple effect that spread throughout the countries. People were now able to leave the farms and move into cities because there was sufficient agricultural production to support life away from the farm.

Laissez Faire: A Conservative Approach to the Industrial Revolution. Laissez faire (from the French, meaning to leave alone or to allow to do) is an economic and political doctrine that holds that economies function most efficiently when unencumbered by government regulation.

Labor unions arose in the nineteenth century as increasing numbers of Americans took jobs in factories, mines, and mills in the growing industrial economy. In the late nineteenth century, the Knights of Labor attempted to organize workers of all kinds into a union to improve working hours and conditions for laborers.

how did the great compromise help alleviate tensions between the northern and southern states at the constitutional convention
Evgen [1.6K]

The great compromise was done in a situation in 1787 for constitutional convention to end the conflict. States or groups with larger population wanted population based representation while the smaller states wanted equality in everything. This led to a major conflict between these two states.

Explanation:

When the conflict was increased the founding fathers wanted to prevent the nation from civil war and chaos so they came up with the idea of the great compromise. The solution or the compromise was proposed by "Roger Sherman and Oliver Ellsworth". The great compromise created two bodies in the bicameral Congress.

Virginia was the larger state while "New Jersey" was the smaller one. Both the states proposed their own proposals. The idea of the compromise was to merge and combine both the proposals so that both groups can have equal amount of benefits and disadvantages. The plan was approved by a slim margin on "July 23, 1787".
