Answer:  The length of all three sides of the reflecting pool are 8 feet , 17 feet and 16 feet.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let sides along the building be 'x',  then the measure of hypotenuse = x+9 and the measure of third side = 7+x

Since , the reflecting pool is shaped like a right triangle.

Then , by using Pythagoras theorem , we have

(x+9)^2=x^2+(x+7)^2\\\\\Rightarrow\ x^2+81+18x=x^2+x^2+49+14x\ \ [\text{Using }(a+b)^2=a^2+b^2+2ab ]]\\\\\Rightarrow\ x^2+81+18x=2x^2+49+14x\\\\\Rightarrow\ x^2-4x-32=0\\\\\Rightarrow\ x^2-8x+4x-32=0\\\\\Rigtarrow\ x(x-8)+4(x-8)=(x-8)(x+4)\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=8\ or -4

But length cannot be negative , it means x= 8

Now, the length of side along building = 8 feet

Length of hypotenuse = 9+8 =17 feet

Length of third side = 8+7= 16 feet

It is an acute triangle because none of its angles are equal to (right) or above (obtuse) 90 degrees.

The error is in the second step they subtracted 3 from both sides but it was a 3x, which you can not do.
Correction.
9x+18+3x=1

The distance between the two islands shown on the map is 210 miles. A ruler measures the distance on the map is three 1/2 inches
BARSIC [14]
<span>210 miles equals 1 and 1/2 inches (3 1/2"s or 0.5"). 1 and 1/2" is equal to two 3/4" (3/4 + 3/4 = 1 and 1/2). 1.5" is equal to 210 miles, and 1.5" is equal to 2 * .75", you can divide 210 miles by two, which gives you 105 miles.</span>

Ok so this is so confusing The volume of water in a rectangular swimming pool can be modeled by the polynomial 2x3 _ 9x2 + 7x +
Alika [10]
The volume formula is V= l x L x H, l=width, L=Length, H= Depth, so
2x3 _ 9x2 + 7x + 6 = l x L x (2x + 1), because H=(2x + 1), so
l x L= (2x3 _ 9x2 + 7x + 6 )/ (2x + 1) = (2x3 _ 9x2 + 7x + 6 ) X [1/(2x + 1)]
case1: l= (2x3 _ 9x2 + 7x + 6 ) or L= 1/(2x + 1), case2: L= (2x3 _ 9x2 + 7x + 6 ) or l= 1/(2x + 1)
the why question:
perhaps there is similarity of value between volume and l, or volume and L
