Xy = -5
x + y = 4

xy = -5
\frac{xy}{x} = \frac{-5}{x}
y = \frac{-5}{x}

x + y = 4
x + \frac{-5}{x} = 4
\frac{x^{2}}{x} + \frac{-5}{x} = 4
\frac{x^{2} - 5}{x} = 4
x^{2} - 5 = 4x
x^{2} - 4x - 5 = 0
x^{2} - 5x + x - 5 = 0
x(x) - x(5) + 1(x) - 1(5) = 0
x(x - 5) + 1(x - 5) = 0
(x + 1)(x - 5) = 0
x + 1 = 0    or    x - 5 = 0
x = -1    or    x = 5

   x + y = 4          or          x + y = 4
  -1 + y = 4          or          5 + y = 4
+ 1       + 1                     - 5        - 5
          y = 5             or             y = -1
    (x, y) = (-1, 5)               (x, y) = (5, -1)

The two numbers that add up to 4 and can multiply to -5 are -1 and 5.

Make m the subject in the relation <br><img src="https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=2m%20-%20%20x%20%20%2B%203y%20%5Ch%20%3D%202y%20%5Cp" i
il63 [147K]

Answer:

m = \frac{-y+x}{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

2m - x + 3y = 2y

Take -x and +3y on the other side of the equal to sign:

2m = 2y +x-3y

Now solve for y:

2m = -y +x

Take 2 one the other side of the equation:

m = \frac{-y +x}{2}

Hope this helps :)

Can it be concluded that if there is a 50% chance of contracting a communicable disease through contact with an infected person,
crimeas [40]

Answer:

No it cannot be concluded.

Step-by-step explanation:

The probability of getting the disease in the first attempt is 50%

The probability of getting the disease in the second attempt is 50%

Thus the probability of getting the disease in either of the turns is 50%+50%=100% (which may seem to be true)

BUT

The probability of not  getting the disease in the first attempt is 50%

The probability of not getting the disease in the second attempt is 50%

Thus the probability of not getting the disease in either of the turns is 50%+50%=100% (which is also true for this case)

Thus the probability of getting the disease in either of the 2 contacts is still 50%
