A lab technician is tested for her consistency by taking multiple measurements of cholesterol levels from the same blood sample.

The target accuracy is a variance in measurements of 1.2 or less. If the lab technician takes 16 measurements and the variance of the measurements in the sample is 2.2, does this provide enough evidence to reject the claim that the lab technician’s accuracy is within the target accuracy? Compute the value of the appropriate test statistic

Answer and Explanation:

Given : A lab technician is tested for her consistency by taking multiple measurements of cholesterol levels from the same blood sample.

The target accuracy is a variance in measurements of 1.2 or less. If the lab technician takes 16 measurements and the variance of the measurements in the sample is 2.2.

To find :

1) Does this provide enough evidence to reject the claim that the lab technician’s accuracy is within the target accuracy?

2)Compute the value of the appropriate test statistic ?

Solution :

1) n=16 number of sample

The target accuracy is a variance in measurements of 1.2 or less i.e. \sigma_1^2 =1.2

The variance of the measurements in the sample is 2.2 i.e. \sigma_2^2=2.2

According to question,

We state the null and alternative hypotheses,

Null hypothesis H_o : \text{var}^2 \geq 1.2

Alternative hypothesis H_a : \text{var}^2

We claim the alternative hypothesis.

2) Compute the value of the appropriate test statistic.

Using Chi-square,

\chi =\frac{(n-1)\sigma_2^2}{\sigma_1^2}

\chi =\frac{(16-1)(2.2)}{(1.2)}

\chi =\frac{(15)(2.2)}{1.2}

\chi =\frac{33}{1.2}

\chi =27.5

Therefore, The value of the appropriate test statistic is 27.5.

You conduct a simulation regarding which team spectators at a football game support. Your null hypothesis is that there are equa
Llana [10]

Answer:

As the <em>p</em>-value is too small the null hypothesis will be rejected concluding that there is a higher proportion of people supporting the home team.

Step-by-step explanation:

The hypothesis to determine which team spectators at a football game support is:

<em>H₀</em>: There are equal proportions of people supporting the home team and the visiting team, i.e. <em>p</em>₁ = <em>p</em>₂.

<em>Hₐ</em>: There is a higher proportion of people supporting the home team than the visiting team, i.e. <em>p</em>₁ > <em>p</em>₂.

A <em>z</em>-test for difference between proportions can be used to perform the test.

The test statistic is:

z=\frac{\hat p_{1}-\hat p_{2}}{\sqrt{P(1-P)\frac{1}{n_{1}}+\frac{1}{n_{2}}}}}

Th decision rule is:

If the <em>p</em>-value of the test is less than the significance level <em>α </em>then the null hypothesis will be rejected and vice-versa.

The commonly used significance levels are 0.01, 0.05 and 0.10.

The <em>p</em>-value of the test is computed as, <em>p</em> = 0.002.

The <em>p</em>-value of the test is less than all the significance level.

Thus, the null hypothesis will be rejected at any of the three significance level.

Conclusion:

As the <em>p</em>-value is too small the null hypothesis will be rejected concluding that there is a higher proportion of people supporting the home team.

6 students have black hair, 3 students have blonde hair, and 21 students have brown hair. since percentages come out of 100% you can use ten as a smaller size, so 20% of 10 is 1, multiply that by three because our full percentage is out of 30, and you get 3, and so on.
