The child will commonly disobey the rules of time-out, which will have the duration of the punishment reset in response. The result could be a unnecessarily long issue between both the adult and the child, with their relationship reaching a heated point. Clearly there is an issue present when it comes to having power over the child - they are actually not being controlled at all, as they would continue to disobey over and over.
