Three types air pollutions are:

1. Greenhouse gases

This refers to gases that are responsible for the trapping of heat in the earth’s atmosphere which results in the warming of the planet (increasing of global temperature). Carbon dioxide (CO2)  is one of the main pollutants, released from the cars, planes, power plants, and other human activities that involve the burning of fossil fuels such as gasoline and natural gas. Other greenhouse gases include methane—which comes from such sources as swamps and gas emitted by livestock—and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which were used in refrigerants. Nitrogen oxides such as nitrogen oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) are also greenhouse gases.

2. Natural air pollution

This refers to air pollution caused by natural causes such as dust, volcanic eruptions (sulphur, chlorine and ash particulates), radioactive decay and forest fires (smoke and carbon monoxide).

3. Smog

This is  is the mixture of smoke and fog. Nitrogen oxides, ozone (O3), and several other compounds are some of the components that make smog as a result of complex photochemical reactions ( pollutant exposed to sunlight).
