Because mental activity requires brain energy. When you do heavy mental activity you're burning up more energy than you would if you were to not think and do nothing. For this reason, mental activity does increase the energy consumption of your brain with the primary source of energy being glucose.

Organisms that live in the rainforest have developed unique adaptations that aid in their survival. Which adaptation would most
Gnesinka [82]

Answer: b. birds have beak adapted to break open hard shells.

Birds in the rain forests are adapted to perform different functions. It helps birds to capture their food, groom their features, defend their territories and attack predators. The shape of the beak defines a particular ecological niche of a particular bird. The shape of the beak are specially adapted to eat foods such as seeds, fruits, insects. The beaks becomes hard and pointed in order to break open pods, seeds, fruits available as food source in rain forests. Therefore, adaptation in beak allows birds to feed different types of food and allows them to switch to different sources of food if one source becomes scare in the rain forests.

Which of the following is generally true of an autosomal recessive pedigree?
Alborosie

Answer:

C. On average, 25% of the children are affected by the autosomal recessive disease if both parents are carriers.

Explanation:

A recessive trait is always expressed in homozygous genotype only. To have progeny with recessive traits from two normal parents, both the parents should be heterozygous carriers. For example, two normal parents with genotype "Aa" have 25% of the chances to have a child with homozygous recessive genotype (Aa x Aa = 1/4 AA: 1/2 Aa: 1/4 aa).

An autosomal trait is equally expressed in both males and females. Inbreeding increases the homozygosity and thereby, increases the risk of expression of recessive traits which are otherwise masked in heterozygous genotype.

You measure the pH of your backyard soil and find it is 7. You measure the pH of your friend's backyard soil and find it is 4. H
olchik [2.2K]

Answer:

1000 times.

Explanation:

Hello,

In this case, since the pH is defined by:

pH=-log([H^+])

If we want to compute the concentration of hydrogen we must write:

[H^+]=10^{-pH}

Thus, for both the backyard soils we compute:

[H^+]_{pH=7}=10^{-7}=1x10^{-7}M

[H^+]_{pH=4}=10^{-4}=1x10^{-4}M

It means that:

\frac{[H^+]_{pH=4}}{[H^+]_{pH=7}} =\frac{1x10^{-4}M}{1x10^{-7}M}\\ \\\frac{[H^+]_{pH=4}}{[H^+]_{pH=7}}=1000

It means that the concentration of hydrogen at a pH of 4 is 1000 times greater than the concentration of hydrogen at a pH of 7.

Regards.
