Answer:

<em>"Personification is the representation of a non-human thing with the characters of a human like emotions, appearances, etc."</em>

The poem "Building With Its Face Blown Off" by Billy Collins have many examples of personification in it.

Explanation:

The first example of personification can be found in its title only where a building is presented by the poet having a <em>face blown off</em><em>.</em>

The effect of the use of personification in the poem is that it is making the poetry come alive, as if this blown up building is telling the pain and describing itself after being blown off.

Other examples of personification in the poem are:

"as if the room had answered the explosion

<em>wearing only its striped pyjamas."</em>

"And the bathroom looks almost embarrassed

by its uncovered ochre walls,

<em>the twisted mess of its plumbing,"</em>

<em>"the sink sinking to its knees,</em>
