When the first Spanish settlers arrived to America one of their impressions was that its inhabitants were savages and needed to be civilized according to the European way of life. One specific event that can be used as a example was the process of indoctrination of indigenous people into Roman-Catholic Christianity so they could evolve into a more European like society.
