  • It is also possible to refer to Guru Rinpoche as PADMASAMBHAVA, which translates to ‘Lotus-born.’ It is stated that when Rinpoche was born, he was born inside of a lotus flower on the shore of the lake DHANAKOSA in ODDIYANA and transformed into an extremely beautiful eight-year-old boy. This story comes from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

In the Tibetan language, the name Guru Rinpoche, which translates to ‘precious master,’ was bestowed upon him. It is reported that he rode on a back of a tigress to a cave in Bhutan, where he meditated for three years, three months, three weeks, three days, and three hours. There is a legend that the world-famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang, was constructed around this cave.
