PADMASAMBHAVA, also called Guru Rinpoche, Tibetan Slob-DPON (“Teacher”), or Padma ’Byung-GANAS (“Lotus Born”), (flourished 8th century), legendary Indian Buddhist mystic who introduced Tantric Buddhism to Tibet and who is credited with establishing the first Buddhist monastery there.

This story comes from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

It is reported that he rode on a back of a tigress to a cave in Bhutan, where he meditated for three years, three months, three weeks, three days, and three hours. There is a legend that the world-famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang, was constructed around this cave.
