It is helpful if you're comfortable doing arithmetic with fractions. (If not, you can still work these problems, but you have to deal with fractions at some point.)

1) y + 4/9 - 1/9 = 7/9 . . . . . . .  rearrange, use a common denominator

... y = 7/9 - 5/9

... y = 2/9

2) (2 1/2)x -(3/2)x -15/4 = 3/8

... x(5/2 -3/2) = 3/8 + 30/8 . . . . . . . consolidate x terms, add 15/4

... x = 33/8 . . . . . . . simplify

3) 0.9x + 1.26 - 2.3 + 0.1x = 1.6

... x - 1.04 = 1.6 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . simplify

... x = 2.64 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . add 1.04

_____

If you want to eliminate fractions before you start, you can multiply by a suitable integer—usually the least common denominator.

1) Multiplying by 9 gives 6+9y-1=7; 5+9y=7; 9y=2; y=2/9

2) Multiplying by 8 gives 20x -6(2x+5)=3; 8x-30=3; 8x=33; x=33/8

3) Multiplying by 100 gives 9(10x+14) -230 +10x =160; 100x-104=160; 100x=264; x=2.64

Light bulbs usually cost 2$. They are on sale for 0.50 of the regular price. What is the sale price? Is this a better price than
Vinil7 [7]

Answer:

The sale price is $1

$1 is not a better price since there is a cheaper price of $0.7

Step-by-step explanation:

Original price is $2

The price now is 0.5 × $2 = $1

If the sale price was 0.35 of the original price;

It would be 0.35 × $2 = $0.7

$1 is not a better price since there is a cheaper price of $0.7

What is the sum of all positive integers less than 300 which are divisible by 3
drek231 [11]

Answer:

14,850

Step-by-step explanation:

You need the sum of

3 + 6 + 9 + 12 + ... + 294 + 297

Factor out a 3 from the sum

3 + 6 + 9 + 12 + ... + 294 + 297 = 3(1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + ... + 98 + 99)

You need to add all integers from 1 to 99 and multiply by 3.

The sum of all consecutive integers from 1 to n is:

[n(n + 1)]/2

The sum of all consecutive integers from 1 to 99 is

[99(99 + 1)]/2

The sum you need is 3 * [99(99 + 1)]/2

3 + 6 + 9 + 12 + ... + 294 + 297 =

= 3 * [99(99 + 1)]/2

= 3 * [99(100)]/2

= 3 * 9900/2

= 14,850

If sin 20 degree=a and cos20 degree=b then which of the following represents the correct value of sin 70 degree in terms of a an
Scorpion4ik [409]

ANSWER

3) b

EXPLANATION

Given that:

\sin(20 \degree) = a

and

\cos(20 \degree) = b

Recall that the sine and cosine functions are equal for complementary angles.

This implies that,

\sin(70 \degree) = \cos(20 \degree)

\sin(70 \degree) = b
