Nataly_w [17]

The French were convinced to support the American war against the British after the Americans won the Battle of Trenton When word reached him that the British had surrendered at the Battle of Saratoga in December 1777, Vergennes finally decided to ally. Vergennes, who had heard rumors of Britain's secret peace offer to Franklin, decided not to wait for Spanish support and proposed an official French alliance with the United States.

In 1776, the Continental Congress sent diplomats Benjamin Franklin, Cyrus Dean, and Arthur Lee to establish a formal alliance with France.

The American war victory over Britain at Saratoga convinced France that the United States was committed to becoming a worthy partner for independence and a formal alliance.

Where would we be without the third amendment?
vodomira [7]

Answer: “No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.” Without the third amendment people wouldn't have rights over their own homes. Strangers would be allowed in and could have control over your home.

Beginning about 1890, approximately twenty states enacted segregation laws. What effect did they have? Select all that apply.Beg
nirvana33 [79]

B. They enforced compulsory segregation of people along racial lines so African Americans couldn't swim in the same swimming pools as whites.

C. People of Native American descent were denied a public education and in many cases forced to attend boarding schools to wipe out any trace of Native American heritage.

E. It resulted in the "separate but equal" policy that was eventually ruled unconstitutional.

The policies aimed at African Americans are probably more well known.  But the policies aimed at Native Americans should not be overlooked either.  The  the U.S. government pushed many thousands of Native American children to attend “assimilation” boarding schools in the late 19th century.  Boarding schools followed early history of attempts to kill or remove Native Americans. The new method was to try to teach them to be more like white people.  So these were "segregation" laws in sort of a reverse direction, trying to make it impossible to remain a Native American and become like a "proper" American.
