In 1854 and 1861 there was a series of violent civil confrontations in Kansas territory. They call it Bleeding Kansas because of the blood shed by pro-slavery and anti-slavery groups.

Georgia meant that the Cherokee Nation did not have legal recourse against Georgia laws that sought to force them off their land. The Cherokee Nation did not give up and attempted to sue again in Worcester v. Georgia (1832). This time, the Court found in favor of the Cherokee people

President John F. Kennedy later said that, "The events in Birmingham... have so increased the cries for equality that no city or state or legislative body can prudently choose to ignore them." It is considered one of the major turning points in the Civil Rights Movement and the "beginning of the end" of a centuries-long struggle for freedom.
