To solve the problem we will use this equation where,

d will be distance.
x is the speed of the plane without tailwind.
y is the speed of the wind affecting the plane.
Going to Philadelphia the speed of the plane affected by wind will be x-y=220 miles/hr
Coming back with a tailwind, the speed of the plane will be x+y= 280 miles/hr.
since time = distance / speed, t1 =d/220 and t2 = d/280
and since the total time traveled is 6.5hrs
d/220 + d/ 280 = 6.5hrs
d = 800.8 miles x 2 (back and forth trip) the answer is 1601.6 miles

The cost of a gallon of gas recently doubled. By what percent did it increase? A) 50% B) 100% C) 150% D) 200%
drek231 [11]
Hey there!

If a cost of a gallon recently doubled, then it increased by 50%. This is because half of 100% is 50% and it takes one more 50% to double.

Hope this helps you.

You sell an automobile part for $9.98, which includes a $.40 sales tax. The article cost you $8.75.
Irina-Kira [14]

Answer:

9.5%

Step-by-step explanation:

Buying price of the part= $ 8.75

Selling price of the part= $ 9.98

sale tax= $0.40

Selling price before sale tax= $9.98-$ 0.40 = $ 9.58

Make-up amount charged= $9.58- $8.75 = $ 0.83

As a percentage= (0.83/ 8.75) ×100

=9.5%
