Answer:

increased erosion in the area.

Explanation:

When houses or properties are laid or biult on surfaces that obstruct free flow of water, such can lead to erosion.

When there is an increased erosion in an area, there would be loss in benefit that should be derived from eco system. The components that make up eco system such as soil, micro organisms, water sources, minerals would all be lost because all the components interact with one another which are beneficial to mankind.

One of the importance of eco system is that it support lives control important ecological components. There is also nutrients recycling among biotic and non biotic factors.

Measures of dispersion are often used in finance as a proxy for risk. Explain
Schach [20]

<u>Measures of dispersion are often used in finance as a proxy for risk:</u>

Measures of dispersion are generally used to describe the variability in sample. The three commonly used measures of dispersion are as follows,

  • Interquartile range - Difference between the 25^{th} and 75^{th} percentile (also known as the 1^{st} and 3^{rd} quartile). The formula is \bold{\text{Interquartile range = Q3 - Q1}}
  • Range - Difference between the largest and smallest observation. The formula is \bold{\text{Range = maximum value - minimum value}}
  • Standard deviation - SD is the square root of sum of squared deviation from the mean divided by the number of observations. The formula is as follows, \bold{\sigma=\sqrt{\frac{\sum\left(x_{i}-\mu\right)^{2}}{N}}}

Appropriate usage of measures of dispersion:

Median and interquartile range is used for skewed numerical data, ordinal data or mean. When mean is utilized as a measure of central tendency or symmetric numerical data, SD is used.

Usage in finance:

In finance, the Regression analysis technique helps in explaining the dispersion of dependent variable, that is measured by its variance, with the help of one or more independent variables each of which has positive dispersion. This proves to be a proxy for risk.

Using the high-low method and the Millco data above, what is the approximate fixed cost component of the monthly maintenance cos
loris [4]

Millco Inc. manufactures electronic parts They are analyzing their monthly maintenance costs to determine the best way to budget these costs in the future. They have collected the following data for the last six months:

Months           Machine Hours    Maintenance Costs

January                 30,000                 $67,500

February               40,000                   74,500

March                    37,500                  65,900

April                      39,000                   68,750

May                       42,300                  74,000

June                     35,000                   64,500

Answer:

Millco Inc.

The approximate fixed cost component of the monthly maintenance costs is:

$51,600.

Explanation:

a) Data and Calculations:

Months           Machine Hours    Maintenance Costs

January                 30,000                  $67,500

February               40,000                    74,500

March                    37,500                   65,900

April                      39,000                    68,750

May                      42,300                   74,000

June                     35,000                   64,500

High-low:

May                       42,300                  $74,000 for highest

January                30,000                    67,500 for lowest

Difference            12,300                    $6,500

Variable costs = $0.53 ($6,500/12,300)

Using May, the total variable cost = 42,300 * $0.53 = $22,419

Fixed cost = $51,581 ($74,000 - $22,419)

or approximately $51,600
