B. Access to trade routes.  Italy’s location made it ideal for merchants and their ships to do trade in that area. Trading posts were set up to deal with merchants from the Byzantine Empire, Muslims, and Europe. For example, cities like Florence and Venice were rich because of trading, and since Florence fabricated cloth, it would serve to them for trade, thus gaining more money

My guess would probably be trade routes, because of all the goods you can get from there, because lots of tribes and merchants accepted little items for expensive ones, which is how empires became wealthy.
