Continental glacier is a thick, slow-moving sheet of ice that covers a large part of a continent or other large landmass. A valley glacier is a river of ice that forms in the cold heights of a mountain range, where snow accumulates, then moves downslope, either flowing down an existing stream valley or carving out new valley.
