Americans saw the depression as a sign that capitalism was about to collapse. Looking at the Soviet union, they maintained that a state-run economy was the only avenue out of the depression. However, even during the worst of the crisis, most American were unmoved by communist calls for revolution. Fascist appeals from the political right also failed to hold any attraction.
