On November 3, 1896 United States presidential elections, William Mckinley, a republican defeated William Jennings Bryan, a democrat.

There are differences in the campaign between the two. Mckinley's platform emphasizes the maintaining of the standard of gold while Bryan called for bimetallic standard of gold and silver. Moreover, Mckinley only campaigned at his home in Canton, Ohio greeting the visiting delegations of Republicans and giving speeches on his front porch, while Bryan travelled around the country delivering speeches that would help benefit the farmers and other debtors. Lastly, Mckinley was tagged as the advance agent of prosperity while Bryan as a dangerous radical.

The ancient Roman republic had three branches of government. In the beginning, the legislative branch was the Senate, a group made up of 300 citizens from Rome's patrician class, the oldest and wealthiest families of Rome. It was the patricians, tired of obeying the king, who revolted and threw out Tarquinius Superbus.
