On November 3, 1896 United States presidential elections, William Mckinley, a republican defeated William Jennings Bryan, a democrat.

There are differences in the campaign between the two. Mckinley's platform emphasizes the maintaining of the standard of gold while Bryan called for bimetallic standard of gold and silver. Moreover, Mckinley only campaigned at his home in Canton, Ohio greeting the visiting delegations of Republicans and giving speeches on his front porch, while Bryan travelled around the country delivering speeches that would help benefit the farmers and other debtors. Lastly, Mckinley was tagged as the advance agent of prosperity while Bryan as a dangerous radical.

Why was the war of 1812 so politically divisive and poorly fought by the united states, and how did the course of the war reflec
kicyunya [14]
The war of 1812 was politically divisive due to the different demographic and political factions who supported or abhorred the idea of conflict. The war was much more favored by Democratic-Republicans in the Southern and Western United States then it was Federalist in both New England and the South. Add to this that there wasn't a national cause or anger to unite people behind the war, and it just wasn't something a large portion of the population wanted to do. Also, because of these divisions America came into the war sorely unprepared to achieve victory with an army that was largely disorganized and unsupported by the militias.

Which was not a cause of the Protestant Reformation? Question 11 options: A.the Renaissance spirit of questioning authority B.sa
ollegr [7]
If I'm remembering correctly, the Protestant Reformation was a direct challenge to the Catholic church during the Renaissance. The Renaissance spirit of questioning authority (A) WAS a cause. During this time period, the Renaissance, people were beginning to think for themselves about the traditions they had followed for centuries--including the Catholic church.

The sale of indulgences (B) was also a cause: people were unhappy that the Catholic church was making money by selling forgiveness of your sins. That's just not right! It drove many people away from Catholicism.

I believe the Council of Trent (C) was a RESPONSE to the Protestant Reformation, where Catholicism was looked at a little more closely. The council was very much against the Protestant Reformation. This option is an effect, not a cause.

Answer: C
