What was the outcome of these tariff debates, and why was it that few were pleased with these results?
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]
The Tariff debates resulted in the South being displeased (as explained in the last question), and also resulted in the British threatening to end cotton trade with the US due to the high rates for the Cotton, and less revenue because of lessened trade with Britain. The rates had rose because of the tariffs. Few were pleased in the south because they had less revenue (due to lessened trade with Britain), but higher rates on to purchase things not made in the South. To lessen tensions with the South because of the tariffs, the tariff of 1832 called for the gradual reduction of rates, But this wasn't enough for South Carolina, who nullified the two tariffs.
