Can someone solve for x please:

Mathematics

Of course you could solve for x.  The LCD of these three fracgtions is (x-2)(x+2)(x).

However, you could identify the correct answer by subbing the given x values into the original equation of fractions.  For example, if you want to test out x = -4/3 and x = -5, focus on one or the other first.  If x = -4/3

then the first fraction becomes

     2
-------------     Calculate the other 2 fractions for x = -4/3.  Is the resulting
-4/3 - 6/3      equation then true?

THe LCD is x(x^2 - 4)

so multiplying through by this we get:-

2x(x + 2) + 7x =  5(x^2 - 4)
2x^2 + 4x + 7x = 5x^2 - 20
3x^2 - 11x  - 20 = 0

(3x + 4)(x - 5 ) =  0

so x =  5 , -4/3

Its the second choice

In one day, a book store earned $199 in sales for 4 copies of a new cookbook and 5 copies of a new science fiction novel. On the
Marina86 [1]

Answer:

The cookbook costs $36 per copy while the science fiction costs $11 per copy

Step-by-step explanation:

Here in this question, we are interested in calculating the price of the cookbook and the price of the science fiction novel.

Since we do not know the price of each, we start by assigning variables to stand in for these unknown prices.

Let the price of the cookbook be $x , while the price of the science fiction be $y

Now, on the first day, 4 copies of the cookbook and 5 copies of the fiction;

mathematically that would be 4 * x and 5 * y

We add both and sum to be $199

Thus we have;

4x + 5y = 199 ••••••••••(i)

On the second day;

3 copies of cookbook 3 * x = 3x with 4 copies of science fiction 4 * y

Adding both yielded 152;

Thus, we have ;

3x + 4y = 152••••••••••(ii)

So we need to solve both equations simultaneously to get the values of x and y

4x + 5y = 199

3x + 4y = 152

Multiply equation i by 3 and equation ii by 4

3 * 4x + 5y = 199

4 * 3x + 4y = 152

12x + 15y = 597

12x + 16y = 608

Now, subtract multiplied equation ii from multiplied equation i

(12x-12x) + (15y-16y) = (597-608)

-y = -11

y = 11

To get x, simply substitute in any of the equations;

let’s use equation 1

4x + 5y = 199

4x + 5(11) = 199

4x + 55 = 199

4x = 199-55

4x = 144

x = 144/4

x = 36

Find the area to the right of the z-score 1.39 and to the left of the z-score 1.53 under the standard normal curve.1.2 1.3 1.4 0
svetoff [14.1K]

Complete Question

The complete question is shown on the first uploaded image

Answer:

The value is  P( 1.39 <  z <  1.53 ) = 0.0193

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question we are told to obtain the area to the of the z-score 1.39 and to the left of the z-score 1.53, this is mathematically represented as

        P( 1.39 <  z <  1.53 ) =  P( z <  1.53 ) - P( z <  1.39 )

From the z table on the question the area under the normal curve to the left corresponding to 1.53 and  1.39  is

       P( z <  1.53 )  = 0.9370

and

      P( z <  1.39 )  = 0.9177

So

     P( 1.39 <  z <  1.53 ) = 0.9370 - 0.9177

=>  P( 1.39 <  z <  1.53 ) = 0.0193

20 liters of mixture contain milk nad water in the ratio 5:3 of 4 liters of the mixture are replaced by 4 liters of milk find th
pantera1 [17]

Answer:

7:3

Step-by-step explanation:

5 + 3 = 8

The ratio is

5 milk : 3 water : 8 total

Milk is 5/8 of the total.

Water is 3/8 of the total.

The 20-liter mixture contains:

5/8 * 20 = 12.5 liters of milk, and

3/8 * 20 = 7.5 liters of water

4 liters of the mixture contain:

5/8 * 4 = 2.5 liters of milk, and

3/8 * 4 = 1.5 liter of water

When you remove 4 liters of the mixture from 20 liters of the mixture, you end up with

12.5 L - 2.5 L = 10 L milk, and

7.5 L - 1.5 L = 6 L water

Now you add 4 liters of milk. Now you have

10 L + 4 L = 14 L milk

6 L water

The new ratio of milk to water is 14:6 = 7:3
