The word that clearly reveals the tone of the passage is intolerable.

This word is the one that the author uses to describe the situation since it has a <em>negative connotation.</em> On the overall, the author is providing the reader an annoying depiction of the scene by describing sarcastically the characters, wearing goggles and looking like a strange army.
