Sample Response: "Sea Fever” by John Masefield uses several poetic devices that classify it as a fixed form poem. It has three stanzas of four lines each; it has a repeating aabb, ccdd, eeff rhyme scheme; and each line is about the same length and uses the same rhythmic pattern.

“Sea Fever" by John Masefield is considered to glamorize the language with rythmic constructions, and compund resources that project a beautiful imagery.

Answer:

This is a fixed structure because it keeps the last two lines of each stanza in a rhyme, and not only that but also in the first two lines.

This structure is kept throughout the text in a masterful way and repeated several times this is considered "a fixed" way to rhyme even though it uses different combinations of letters in each stanza.

As an example:

Stanza 1 AABB

Stanza 2 CCDD

Stanza 3 EEFF

wariber [46]

c. abab

The rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhyme in a poem. In order to determine the rhyme scheme, you really only need to pay attention to the last word of each line: bower, mingle, flower, dingle. The first line is labeled with the first letter of the alphabet (A). Any lines that rhyme with the first line also end in A. Since bower and flower rhyme, they are both labeled A. The next line that doesn't rhyme receives the next letter of the alphabet: B. Since bower and mingle do not rhyme, mingle is labeled B. Mingle does rhyme with dingle, so it also is labeled B. Therefore the rhyme scheme is

bower A

mingle B

flower A

dingle B

ABAB

Interrupting phrases: The comma can be used for an interrupting phrase to give more information.

Compound sentences: Comma can be placed between compound sentences even though each sentence can stand on its own e.g. Tom doesn't like mangoes, so he threw them away.
