A) Consider the equation 10x^2-3x-1=0

We have to describe the solutions to this equation.

We will determine the radicand = b^2-4ac

= (-3)^2 - 4(10)(-1) = 9+ 40 = 49 which is greater than zero,

Therefore, the given equation ha real roots.

B) Consider the equation 16x^2-2x-5=0

We will use middle splitting term method to solve this equation.

16x^2+8x-10x-5 =0

8x(2x+1) -5(2x+1)=0

(2x+1)(8x-5)=0

So, 2x+1=0

x = \frac{-1}{2} and x = \frac{5}{8}

I chose this method, because this is more easier and takes less time.

Part A:
 For this case we have the following equation:
 10x2 - 3x - 1 = 0
 The radicand of the equation is:
 root (b ^ 2 - 4 * a * c)
 Substituting values:
 root ((- 3) ^ 2 - 4 * (10) * (- 1))
 root (9 + 40)
 root (49)
 49> 0
 Therefore, the function has two real roots.

 Part B:

For this case we have the following equation:
 16x2 - 2x - 5 = 0
 Factoring we have:
 (2x + 1) * (8x-5) = 0
 The solutions are:
 x = -1/2
 x = 5/8
 The method of factoring is usually faster when solving quadratic equations.

Help!! Find the value of f(3)
nekit [7.7K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Start with where it tells you the value of x. The value of x is 3. That's given by    f(x) = f(3)

Next see which one of the functions you use. x > 0 is given by x^4 - 7. Since 3 is greater than zero you use x^4 - 7

f(3) means that wherever you see an x on the right side, you put a 3.

f(x) = x^4 - 7

f(3) = 3^4 - 7

f(3) = 81 - 7

f(3) = 74

Five standard six-sided dice are rolled. We are told there is no three-of-a-kind, but there is a pair of dice that show the same
Neko [114]

The probability that after re-rolling these three dice, at least three of the five dice show the same value is  \frac{4}{9}

Of the three dice rolled, one may match the original pair and two are different, and this can occur three ways:

(\frac16 \times \frac56 \times \frac56 ) + ( \frac56 \times \frac16 \times \frac56 ) + ( \frac56 \times \frac 56 \times \frac 16 )  =  \frac {75}{216}

[ where \frac{1}{6} is the probability of matching the first two and \frac{5}{6} is the probability of not matching the first two ]

Or, two may match the original pair and one is different

( \frac16 \times \frac16 \times \frac 56 ) + ( \frac16 \times \frac56 \times \frac 16 ) + ( \frac56 \times \frac16 \times \frac16 )  = \frac {15}{216}

Or, all three may match the original pair

( \frac 16 \times \frac 16 \times \frac 16 )  = \frac {1}{216}

Or, all three may  be the same, but not match the original pair:

( \frac 56 \times \frac 16 \times\frac 16 )  =  \frac {5}{216}

[ where \frac{5}{6} is the probability of getting a new number and \frac{1}{6} is the probability of matching that new number ]

Adding these together: \frac {75}{216} + \frac {15}{216} + \frac 1{216} + \frac 5{216}  =  \frac {96}{216}  = \frac 49

Evaluate this problem
sammy [17]
-5x-2y=2....(1)
6x-2y=24.....(2)
multiply (2) by -1,
-6x+2y=-24....(3)
add (1)+(3)
-5x-2y-6x+2y=2-24
-11x=-22
-11x/11=-22/11
x=2
plugging in the value of x in (1)
-5(2)-2y=2
-10-2y=2
addind 10 to both sides
-2y=12
deviding both sides by -2
y=-6
so (x,y)=(2,-6)
