The issue the world is facing now in regards to human population is OVERPOPULATION.
Overpopulation refers to a situation where the number of people living on the earth exceed the carrying capacity of the earth. Overpopulation is caused by factors such as: reduced mortality rate, better medical facilities,technological advancement in fertility treatments, immigration, lack of family planning, etc.  Overpopulation leads to degradation of the environment, depletion of natural resources, rise in unemployment, high cost of living, etc.

The achievements were that it managed to raise its own army and create its own currency and government. The failures were that it didn't manage to become internationally recognized, and they eventually became bankrupt. Another thing was that there was a lot of internal strife and division.
