Syphilis is an STD transmitted through sexual contact and develops in stages:

Stage 1 (3-90 dyas after exposure), it starts off as a painful sore.

Stage 2 (4-10 weeks after exposure), it turns into body rashes that can spread throughout the epidermis.

Stage 3 (3-15 years after exposure), it starts affecting internal organs.

Syphilis is a rare disease, with only an estimated 200,00 cases per year, and is adequately treatable. Usually it resolves within months, but if not treated properly can end up affecting you internal organs are cause long-term problems.
