The Dreyfus affair was a political scandal that originated in France. It was caused when an army captain Alfred Dreyfus was convicted of selling sensitive military information to the Germans. This case began in 1894 and went on till 1906. At first people were pro his punishment and execution as he was Jewish and people easily doubted his loyalty. His only supporters were his family. However when gradually evidence started pointing at another army captain for treason, the family won over the support of the other people as well including some famous names. Although he was pardoned in 1906, his innocence was not declared in front of the public till 1995. This case had virtually divided France into two halves, supporters and non supporters.
