I do believe that learning that the past is important. To understand the present "current events" we must have an understanding of what has already taken place in the past. Some examples of this would be "Conflicts with other countries" "Economy" or "Treatment of immigrants" Also, past events and experiences have shaped our identity and who we are as a country. We need to be aware of our surroundings and realize that we got here because our ancestors helped us through generations.
