Andreas93 [3]

Answer:

They are often at odds with each other.

Explanation:

Gary Soto's short story "Broken Chain" revolves around the character of Alfonso who doesn’t seem satisfied or confident about his appearance and would try to do anything to appear more handsome and cool. Set in California, the story delves into the theme of what beauty is and what it entails, despite many people looking for outward beauty.

In the given excerpt from the story, the narrator reveals Alfonso's interest in looking cool like Prince and other 'celebrities' and wanted his <em>"hair razored into a V in the back and streaked purple."</em> But deep inside, he knows his mother would disapprove it and so would his father who was a <em>"puro Mexicano"</em>. The father's statement of calling Alfonso "<em>a sissy</em>" also reveals the conflict they must have often got into with their differing interests and beliefs. <u>Soto most likely included the father-son duo characterization to show how often they are at odds with each other. </u>

These strategies are all ineffective when dealing with interpersonal conflict. Avoiding it will not solve the conflict. In fact, it can make it grow even larger. Competing with one another is also a strategy that might damage your attempts at reconciliation. Finally, compromising your viewpoint, attitudes and behaviour is ineffective because it takes away the opportunity of exchanging ideas and points of view.

defon

Satire is a very potent tool by which Elizabeth, the protagonist gets back at the patriarchal norms in Pride and Prejudice.

Explanation:

Mr Collins is s distant cousin of Mr Bennet. HE is a clergyman and holds enormous property in the Rosing's park, the estate he own because of his patroness Lady Catherine De Bourgh.

He is essentially a buffoon at worst and a lascivious man at best as he tries to use his money to persuade one of the girls of Mr Bennet to marry him  as well as not give them his estate.

The sharp rebuttals he gets from Elizabeth fend him off from her considerably.
