There is fast neurotransmission since the ligand – gated ion channel receptor is directly activated by the neurotransmitter.  On the other hand, G – protein coupled receptor is bound to the neurotransmitter in order to stimulate a chemical signaling cascade which has a longer pathway, thus, making it slow and metabotropic.</span>
