Plants exhibit a gametophytic (haploid) cycle, while humans tdo not have an alternation of generations. The plants have a sporophytic (diploid) stage of multicellular development which is similar to somatic development in humans. Finally, this sporophyte produces haploid spores that grow into a gametophyte, thereby repeating the cycles of life.

In regard to the fertilization: the gametophyte (asexual) produces haploid gametes that form a diploid zygote analog to the zygote in animals and humans
